Scholarly Research and Education
Since its establishment in 1997, the Foundation has preserved, broadened, catalogued their collections, and made them available thanks to collaboration with both volunteers and professionals.
The Foundation pursues the development of cultural and artistic projects focusing on textiles, which are also developed in collaboration with other cultural institutions such as foundations, associations, consortia, universities, academies, archives and libraries, besides scholars and experts.
On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Foundation had already commissioned the publication of AaVv, Chieri e il tessile (Chieri: Edigamma, 2007). More recent and aimed at engaging the youngsters in textile craftsmanship is a booklet on creative weaving for primary school (Chieri, 2015).
In 2021, for example, the Foundation promoted the cycle of conferences, exhibitions and workshops 'Ars et Industria', curated by Melanie Zefferino, and held with the patronage of the Municipality of Chieri, the City of Turin, the Regional Authorities of Piedmont and the Italian Union of Blind and Visually Impaired People (UICI), Turin office. The aforementioned cycle ended with the exhibition 'Blue Imagination' by Franca Pisani, accompanied by a catalogue published by the Foundation.
Among the various
events encompassed within the cycle 'Ars et Industria', it is worth mentioning the 'Study Day on Woad' held on 18 September 2021, which provided fertile ground for a research project on the materials and making of fustian in Chieri, where it was woven and dyed primarily in blue.
