TEXTILES AND MYTH
MAURICE SICCHIERO
“The textile and the myth between engraved lights and shadows”
Personal exhibition of etchings and engravings
edited by Giovanni Donato
Hall of the “Door of Textiles”, 12 – 26 November 2022
Faithful to the idea that the work arises from a fusion of creativity and manual skill refined over and over again, Maurizio Sicchiero offers a preview for the Textile Museum of Chieri three works of classical inspiration, Odysseus' raft , Ariadne's thread , Athena admonishes Arachne play on the symbolism of the "canvas" and masterfully print on that type of fabric.
The occasion is propitious to combine a small but guarded anthology of works along the same lines, subtle and intriguing, of "plots and plots", between nature and culture. These are works that belong to different phases of the Author's activity, drawing on some genres dear to him such as the urban view, the landscape glimpse and the still life. The exhibition is pleasantly interspersed with some images of Chieri, where Sicchiero works and actively participates in social life.
To enrich the exhibition a contemporary tapestry made by Andrea Navone, owner of the Chierese Artistic Tessitura, reproducing on a jacquard loom
Odysseus' raft
engraved on zinc plate and printed on canvas by Maurizio Sicchiero.

THE ARTIST
Maurice Sicchiero (Rovigo 1949) has been animating the artistic life of Chieri for many years, where he also trains young talents at his studio in the heart of the city (cf. https://raccoltastampesartori.it/autori/sicchiero-maurizio). Having tried his hand at various figurative experiences in time, he soon identified in engraving, and in particular in the etching technique, the most fertile and effective ground for the expression of one's inner world. And it is a matter of successful expression, as confirmedor, in addition to the intimate personal gratification, the collaboration projects with cultural institutes and the national awards that have marked his research - among these the Suzzara PrizeIn the 1994.
THE DRAWING, THE ENGRAVING AND THE TAPESTRY
Referring to a centuries-old tradition, Andrea Navone created the tapestry with a jacquard loom Odysseus' raft designed and printed on canvas by Maurizio Sicchiero using the etching technique.
This is how, on the occasion of the exhibition "The textile and the myth", the textile arts and the visual arts intertwine with unprecedented results, giving life to an interdisciplinary dialogue that contemplates contemporary figuration, giving new life to the material and immaterial heritage of the past.
The creativity, knowledge and craftsmanship of the expert hands of an engraver and a weaver in their respective "workshops" today - the artist's studio of Maurizio Sicchiero and the Chierese Artistic Weaving by Andrea Navone - manifest themselves at the Textile Museum, offering us the opportunity to rediscover the talents and work of a collective identity linked to the culture of textiles.
